What to Bring

  • Documents for Arrivals Day
See Checking In Upon Arrival for a list of the documents (like tuition balance, permission forms and immunization records) we'll collect on Day 0.
  • Clothes
8-10 pairs of socks and underwear
    8 light shirts or T-shirts
3 or 4 pairs of shorts and 1 or 2 pairs of long pants
    1 waterproof jacket
    2 sweaters/sweatshirts
1 or 2 pairs of sneakers and/or 1 pair of sandals
1 set of nicer clothes, with clothes hangers (nothing fancy or formal will be required)
If you do not know how to use a washer and dryer, learn before you come!
  • Personal Items
    Alarm clock (very important!)
Toiletries, bathrobe, shower slippers (shared bathrooms are on each hall)
One or two large bags for carrying laundry to/from the laundry room
Sheets and towels (In 2010, the beds are twin, regular length.)
Small reading lamp (recommended; can also be purchased at camp for $10)
Small fan (recommended; can also be purchased at camp for $10)
    Umbrella (optional)
    Camera (optional)
A cell phone (if you have one) with charger. In 2010, we will not have landline phones available in the dorm rooms. For those campers not bringing cell phones to camp, we will have cell phones available to borrow (for up to an hour) at the Mathcamp office for calling home!
  • School Supplies
Notebook, pens/pencils, binder for handouts, and some paper.
(Don't pack too much - you can easily buy more at the campus bookstore.)
Scientific calculator only if you have one already -- you can certainly do without it
  • Recreation
Sun block!! (There will be many outdoor activities and it is easy to get burned)
Good hiking or walking shoes, hat, sunglasses (If you want to go hiking, bring your boots!)
Swimsuit and extra towel (if you want to go swimming/white-water rafting)
Personal sports equipment (e.g. tennis racket)
Board games, chess sets, puzzles (the more the merrier)
    Musical instruments
Flashlight (optional - for potential hiking/cave exploration field trip)
Water bottle (highly recommended, for hikes and daily hydration)
  • Suggested Spending Money: $100-$150 USD
$10 - $20 for laundry (required); the rest for incidental expenses, extra field trips, etc. (recommended)

Note: Most Mathcamp activities are included in the camp fee, but occasionally we offer extra field trips for which students have to pay part of the cost. Even for these extra trips, Mathcamp is able to subsidize a limited number of students who would find it difficult to afford the trip on their own. If you want to go on a trip but can't pay for it, talk to your advisor. The conversation will remain confidential. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the opportunities offered by the camp!
  • Travel Documents
Don't forget to carry your ticket, visa, and passport/birth certificate safely!

  • What Not To Bring
We suggest that you do not bring valuables or expensive electronic equipment. Students who do not wish to keep money or passports in their rooms may store them in the Mathcamp office. We cannot guarantee the safety of any other valuables (laptops, iPods, etc.). If you choose to bring them, please be aware that you do so at your own risk.
