The dorms: Our dorm in 2010 will be Prospect Hall at the Mount Holyoke College. The campers will live in singles and doubles on single-sex halls. (Students placed together are approximately of the same age; students who know each other prior to arriving at Mathcamp may request to be in the same room.) Each hall has one staff member per every 7 or 8 students, serving as the Residential Advisor (RA) for those students. The dorms are the center of camp life; when you're looking for something or someone, start by checking the main lounge -- it's the hub of activity, and the home of the schedule board, which tells you what's going on this week at camp. The dorms have laundry machines, water coolers, and (free) wifi.
The campus: Students have access to all of the amenities and facilities on campus, including computer labs, library, athletic facilities and the pool. Here's a campus map. Meals at Mathcamp are in the campus dining hall. Vegetarian options are always available! The availability of other special meals varies as the camp moves from year to year. However, even when special meals cannot be arranged through the dining hall, Mathcamp has always been able to accommodate all of our students' dietary restrictions, including those of students with severe allergies and those who kept strictly kosher. Please contact us for further information.
The town: Read what the Mount Holyoke College has to say about South Hadley, MA.
Going off campus: Students at Mathcamp are allowed to leave campus without staff supervision. However, there are certain restrictions:
Students may not leave campus alone. Further, students may not leave campus accompanied by adults who are not Mathcamp staff unless express permission is given by a parent or guardian in advance.
Nearby: There are great opportunities for field trips in the area on weekends at Mathcamp! (Field trips are entirely optional and the cost of field trips is included in the camp fee.) Visit 2010 Field Trips to learn more about what we're planning. We encourage parents to complete permission forms, which are required for students to have the option to participate in some field trips.
