Mathcamp Financial Assistance

Mathcamp is committed to enabling every qualified student to attend, regardless of financial circumstances. We offer an automatic tuition reduction for families earning less than US$100,000, as well as special scholarships and help with setting up a local fundraising program (see below). There is no separate application for any of these forms of financial assistance: just be sure to provide the relevant information on the regular application form. Because fundraising requires time, it is especially important that you send in your application as early as possible.

Tuition Reduction

Household Income Tuition Reduction Net Camp Fee
$100,000 or greater none $3,200
$40,000 < X < $100,000 $(100,000 - X)/50 $(60,000 + X)/50
less than $40,000 $1,200 $2,000

In addition to the automatic tuition reduction, Mathcamp offers two additional forms of financial assistance: special scholarships and a local fundraising program.

Special Scholarships

Mathcamp gives out over $50,000 a year in special scholarships. Awards are based on a combination of merit and need, but our primary goal is to make Mathcamp financially accessible to every qualified student. In the past, scholarship amounts have ranged from $200 to the entire camp fee. Occasionally, we also assist students with the cost of travel to and from camp.

Local Fundraising Program

Because our own resources are limited, Mathcamp may not be able to offer a scholarship to every student who deserves one. But if you really want to come to Mathcamp, we can still help you make it happen! The local fundraising program is something that you organize yourself, with the help of parents and teachers, using guidelines and materials provided by Mathcamp. Historically, this program has proved extremely successful: about a quarter of the students using it have been able to raise the entire camp fee, and the average amount raised was over $1,000. We have a lot of experience helping students through the process, and we will be with you every step of the way. Ultimately, however, the effectiveness of the fundraising depends on your own effort and determination.
