To use the new interactive features of the Mathcamp Alumni Portal, you need to sign in or sign up.
As you well know, the experience of Mathcamp lasts much longer than the five weeks of summer: it stays with you, and so do the friendships you form at camp. Over the last 15 years, Mathcampers have created organically a deep and broad personal and professional network. Mathcampers have been connecting via email lists, social networking sites, reunions at Mystery Hunt — you name it. You, the alumni, have already laid the groundwork for this vibrant network, and we are now building new framework to support your creation. The Alumni Portal will be a place for alumni to connect (or reconnect) with fellow Mathcamp students and staff and to stay in touch with the program.
Gone are the days of the spreadsheets: the MAP is a database with an entry for every person who has ever been to Mathcamp. And what you can do right now at the MAP is update your information! The Portal is a way to connect alumni with each other, and to connect us with each alum. We bring 110 smart, cool teenagers to Mathcamp each summer, and we are incredibly proud of the bright, engaged adults that they become. We're curious to know what you're up to these days (and so are your fellow campers!). And there's a practical side, too: keeping track of our alumni allows us to get a good picture of what life after Mathcamp looks like, and this allows us to better articulate to the 'outside world' exactly what "Mathcamper" means, and this is vital for securing funding for camp. By telling us what's new, you are actively helping to ensure that Mathcamp will continue to thrive. And we are so, so grateful for your support.
Once we know a little more about where you and your classmates are now, we'll open up the data to queries! You'll be able to find Mathcampers in your city ("Which 2006 alums now live in Seattle?"), in your field ("Which alums are now grad students in mechanical engineering? Are any of them at MIT?"), from your years at camp ("Who were the 2006 JCs? Where are they now?"), from your hometown ("Are there any other alumni from North Dakota?"). Of course, any data you enter into the database will be accessible only to the Mathcamp community, and you will be able to elect to hide or anonymize your email address, or to hide yourself from searches so that only the Mathcamp administrators will be able to see your information.
In addition, now that we have a login-only section of the website, we have the opportunity to post content that we want accessible only to camp alumni. Course notes? PDF versions of the camp yearbook? "Then and now" photos? The sky's the limit. (Well, and disk space.) We're very much open to your input: how do you want to use this Mathcamp community space?
Thanks for stopping by. Login or create an account so you can tell us more about what you're up to, and come back soon!
